Alberto F. Centeio, 82, of New Bedford died May 24, 2025 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Ilda (Lopes) Centeio.
Born in Praia, Cape Verde, son of the late Adelaide C. (Centeio) Fontes, he lived on Brava and Portugal before coming to New Bedford in 1976.
He was formerly employed as a carpenter with the New Bedford Housing Authority.
Mr. Centeio enjoyed dancing, music, walking and being on the go.
He was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club.
Survivors include his 5 daughters, Esmeralda "Dina" Centeio, Ilda Centeio DeAndrade and her husband Marcelino, Ines Centeio and Emmanuella "Ella" Lopes, all of New Bedford and Samira Habib of Dayville, CT; a son, John Claude DeBurgo of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Maria Santos of New Bedford and Isabel Fernandes of Cape Verde; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Eliza Centeio.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be on Friday, May 30th from 4-8 PM.
