Alex DaLomba Tavares, 28 years old passed away unexpectedly on May 10th, 2024. Born on the beautiful island of Brava in Cabo Verde he traveled a long way at the age of 7 to settle in Boston, MA. Since then, he made a few stops in between to reach his final destination, New Bedford, MA.

Alex was a kind soul, he was very gentle and mellow, he knew how to make you laugh and he always put others first. As a young child, Alex loved watching cartoons, gaming, riding bicycles, looking for snakes and turtles, and hanging out at Vets Pool. He graduated from New Bedford High School in 2016, and as he grew older, he enjoyed the simple things in life, clear skies, the beach, playing card games, board games and spending time with people he cared about. He began to meditate and find inner peace and relied on his artistic talents to express himself. He was an astounding artist. He could draw and design amazing pieces of art with just a pencil and paper. He was also an aspiring recording artist who released a few singles followed by an album on his birthday, January 24th of this year.

He is survived by his loving parents Antonieta Dalomba and Francisco Tavares. His girlfriend Roselynne Cordero; his brothers Edenilson Semedo, Esmael Semedo, Edgar Semedo, Gerson Davi Tavares, Fabriso Tavares, and Gerson Semedo, his lone sister Amila Cena Tavares. He also leaves behind his adoring cat "Persephone", his grandparents Benvind Andrade and Enrique Tavares; His godparents Hirodina Silva and Carlos Andrade; over 40 Aunts and Uncles; over 80 cousins, dear friends and coworkers.

While Alex's passing left a painful wound in the hearts of so many, rest assured he is now with his grandmother that he adored dearly. He is our guardian angel up above and his vibrancy and love will forever live with us.

Calling hours will be held Monday May 20, 2024 from 3 pm to 8 pm at Saunders-Dwyer Home for the Funeral at 495 Park Street, New Bedford MA, 02740.

A Public Funeral Service will be held Tuesday May 21, 2024 at 9 am in the International Church of Nazarene at 286 Pleasant Street, New Bedford, MA 02740, following the Burial Service at Pine Grove Cemetery at 1100 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made directly to his parents.
