Alfred A. Belli passed away peacefully, after a brave battle with cancer, in the care of Southcoast Health at Home, hospice provider at St. Luke's Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Al was born to Helen and Italo (Si) Belli on April 25, 1954. He grew up with his two older brothers in New Bedford's west end and graduated from the Design Program at New Bedford Vocational Technical High School.
After working locally for a number of years, Al eventually moved to the Boston area to work for his brother, John, at his film and video production facility. As studio manager, he was in charge of the studio and its equipment, helped design and build sets, and oversaw the college intern program. In order to work closer to home, Al ultimately transitioned to work for a national electrical supply company, scheduling and shipping materials for regional projects, as well as for the phased construction of corporate and retail facilities nationwide.
He ultimately retired to pursue his many interests and talents. As a nature lover, it's not surprising his favorite places on earth were Gooseberry Island and Horse Neck Beach. As an accomplished artist, Al created stunningly lifelike wood carvings of waterfowl and fish, each hand painted with a skill rivaling airbrush art. His pieces were sold in boutiques around eastern Massachusetts and the Cape. Al also designed and built exceptional pine furniture including armoires, sideboards, tables, and beds.
His artistry extended to food preparation. Al was an exceptional cook - from scratch apple pies, gourmet Italian meals, and authentic steamed clam and corn feasts, to one of his favorite dishes to start the day - Eggs Benedict.
Al is survived by his eldest brother John and his wife Ellen of Sharon, MA, elder brother David of Snellville, GA, niece Angela Moynihan and her husband Sean of Grayson, GA, niece Christine Darnell and her husband Danny of Naples, FL, and many great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the nurses and care-givers at Accent Hospice Care and all of the dedicated and compassionate doctors and nurses who cared for Al at St. Luke's Hospital.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford, with a service held at 6 PM, during the visitation.
