Alice J. "JuJu" Moraes, 91, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Dos Santos) Moraes and lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
JuJu worked in retail at Star Store for 30 years, and later at Stuarts Department Store until her retirement. During retirement, she volunteered for Coastline Elderly Services' Meals on Wheels Program for several years, where she cherished the many friends and acquaintances she made.
JuJu enjoyed R&B music, cooking, and baking, always making extra to share with those close to her. She was very active and always happy to lend a helping hand. She especially treasured spending time with her family and friends and sending them thoughtful cards.
She is survived by her children, Richard Moraes and his wife, Gina, of Acushnet, and MaryJane Moraes Easton and her husband, Dale, of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Richard Moraes II, Jonathan Louis Moraes, Dale C. Easton, Jr., and Danielle A. Easton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Louise Moraes, Stella M. Cromwell, Lillian Miranda, Antone Moraes, and Alfonso "Mickey" Moraes.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to St. Luke's Hospital for their care and compassion.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday June 4th at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
