Obituary

Ann Elizabeth "Mimi" (Dalzell) McKenna, 90, of New Bedford passed away Monday July 1, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of the late John J. "Mac" McKenna, Jr.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William and Louise (Dillingham) Dalzell, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.

Ann was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1951.  She was the Head Majorette during her senior year.  She attended Cape Cod Nursing School and then graduated from Truesdale Hospital School of Nursing in Fall River. She later was employed part-time as a nurse for the New Bedford Public School Department.

She was a former member of the Grace Episcopal Church.

Ann loved to attend her sons' baseball games and keeping score.  She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.  She enjoyed her glass of chardonnay and her cigarettes.  She had a gift of picture taking and making albums.  She especially loved her bus trips with John.

Her family would like to give special thanks, to her caregivers, Peggy, Lucy, Susan, and Mackenzie, as well as the staffs at Beacon Hospice and St. Luke's Hospital for the exceptional care given to Ann.

She is survived by her sons, Timothy McKenna of New Bedford, Thomas McKenna and his wife Lori of Cumberland, RI, Kevin McKenna of Dartmouth, and Chris McKenna of Newport, RI; her sister, Norma Dyer; seven grandchildren, Jessica McKenna, Ryan McKenna, Madison McKenna, Shawn Poirier, Kendra Poirier, Kacey McKenna, and Meghan McKenna; her daughters-in-law, Donna McKenna and Michele McKenna; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lajoie; her brother-in-law, Charles McKenna and his wife Kathi; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, John "J.D." McKenna.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday July 6th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be on Friday July 5th from 4-7 PM.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Beacon Hospice, 182 North Main St., Fall River, MA 02720 or the Dementia Society of America, P.O.
