Obituary

Armand J. Goulet, 93, formerly of New Bedford, MA and Chicopee, MA, died on April 6, 2025 in the care of Hemando Pasco Hospice in Lecanto, FL.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Philomene (Beaulieu) Goulet and the husband of the late Theresa L. (Guilbert) Goulet with whom he had been married for 50 years. Born on August 8, 1931, he grew up in New Bedford, MA and attended St, Anthony High School. He later attended St. Edmund Seminary in Swanton, Vermont and Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame, South Bend, indiana. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served as a chaplain's assistant to Catholic, Protestant and Jewish chaplains. His service took him to Saudi Arabia and several other European bases. One of the highlights of his service career was the establishment of a Rest and Recreation tour of the Holy Land for the military members stationed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Upon leaving Saudi Arabia, he served as interim Catholic Chaplain and the Assistant to the Chief of Jewish Chaplains in Europe at Orly Field, Paris, France and at Laon, France.

Upon discharge from the military at Dow Air Force Base, Maine, he attended and graduated from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, class of 1953, earning a bachelor's degree in business management. He was employed as a Personnel Assistant at Morse Cutting Tools, New Bedford and Director of Human Resources for PCI Group, Inc. of New Bedford, In 1978, he helped establish the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC) on the former Westover Air Force Base, Chicopee, MA where he served as the Director of Human Resources.

Upon his retirement in 1995, he relocated to Hernando, FL to be closer to his children and grandchildren. For several years, he served as the Chairman for the Safety and Security Committee for the Canterbury Lake Estates of Citrus Hills. He was an avid blood donor having donated more than 100 pints to Red Cross Units in MA and Fl.

He was an active participant of the Catholic parishes wherever he lived, serving as Lector and Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. He also served the Diocese of Fall River, MA on the original board of Directors for the establishment of the CCD Program throughout the diocese and wrote a weekly column for the "Anchor" Diocesan paper. At the time of his passing, he belonged to St. Scholastica Roman Catholic Church of Lecanto, Fl. and was a member of that parish's Knights of Columbus, Council #14485, the CRHP Committee and the local American Legion Post #237 of Beverly Hills, Fl.

He is survived by a son, Lawrence C. Goulet and his wife, Susan and a daughter, Leanne M. Stasiowski and her husband, Stephen of Inverness, Fl. He leaves four grandchildren, Chad Goulet and his wife Katie, Scott Goulet and his wife Lisa, Brian and his fiancé Sarah Grier and Heidi Stasiowski. He also leaves five great-grandchildren, Bethany, Claire, Emileigh and Justin Goulet and Luna Stasiowski.

He is preceded in death by three brothers and nine sisters.

His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 7th at 10 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. His visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 6th from 2-5 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
