Balbina Mae "Bina" (Vieira) Peters, 74, of New Bedford died Monday October 10, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph Fortes Vieira and Eva (Oliver) Vieira, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.

Mrs. Peters was formerly employed as a social worker for Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare in New Bedford and Fall River until her retirement.

Mrs. Peters was a member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Auxiliary, the United Social Club, the Road Runners, and the South-Central Community Development Corporation. She was a graduate of Bristol Community College with an Associates Degree in Social Services.

Survivors include a son, David Stanley Peters and his wife Janice of New Bedford; a daughter, Deborah E. Peters of New Bedford; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Daniel "Dropo" Vieira, Joseph F. "DoDo" Vieira, Jr., and Richard Vieira.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday October 14, 2005 at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday October 13, 2005 from 4-9 PM.
