Barbara A. (Perry) Ganeto, 85, of New Bedford died Monday, August 30, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Duxbury, daughter of the late Joseph and Ena (Veiga) Perry, she was raised in Plymouth by Albert and Rose Veiga and lived most of her life in New Bedford.
Barbara was formerly employed as a paraprofessional at the T.A. Greene School and later at the Alfred J. Gomes School for many years until her retirement. She had also been a foster grandmother at the John B. DeValles School.
She loved spending time with her great-grandson, Tyler Tourinho, Jr.
Barbara is survived by two daughters, Angela Graham of Clearwater, FL and Renée Tourinho of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Tavi Knowles, John "J.R." Rivera, Richard "Tre" Graham, Mackenze Graham, and Shirmika Elago; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Patricia Perry and her husband Benjamin; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Pina) Veiga; her best friend, Mary Ann Ferro, who was always there for her; two Godsons, Lloyd Thimas and Vernon Gilmete; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by two sons, Richard M. Ganeto, Jr. and Darren A. Ganeto; her grandson, Tyler Tourinho, Sr.; and many siblings, including her brother Denis Veiga.
Her visitation will be held Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 2-5 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with her Funeral Service at 4:30 PM, during the visitation. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
