Barbara A. (O'Connell) Jones, 83, of New Bedford died Sunday June 12, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.

Born in New Rochelle, NY, the daughter of the late John Edward and Mildred (Lawrence) O'Connell, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

Survivors include nine children, Marvin S. Johnson of Indian River, FL, Vandal Johnson and Mitchell Johnson, both of New Bedford, Rodney Johnson of Taunton, Robert Johnson, Lynda Monte, and Heidi Johnson, all of Newport, RI, and Sharon Cote and Lisa Farnworth, both of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Robert O'Connell and Michael O'Connell, both of Virginia; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was the mother of the late Mark and Jeffrey Johnson.

Private arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
