Obituary

Blanche B. (Andrews) Perry, 80, of Mattapoisett died October 21, 2009 unexpectedly at home. She was the wife of the late Louis Perry.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Beatrice (Monteiro-Faria) Andrews, she lived in Mattapoisett most of her life.

A graduate of Fairhaven High School, she later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical therapy at Ithaca College in upstate New York. A summa cum laude Graduate, Mrs. Perry was one of few female applicants accepted into the program. She later earned a Masters degree in Rehab counseling at Assumption College in Worcester.
Mrs. Perry was formerly the director of Rehabilitation Services at St. Luke's Hospital for many years until her retirement, and served on their Retirement Committee. She was instrumental in starting the physical therapist program for Newbury College at their satellite campus in New Bedford where she was also a clinical instructor.
She was a member of the Old Colony Regional School Committee, Old Rochester Regional School Committee, the Scholarship Education Fund Committee, the Mattapoisett housing partnership committee, Mattapoisett Land Trust, and a Trustee of the Abner Pease Foundation. Mrs. Perry was also past president of the Women's Club.
She was a member of the "Seaport coffee club" a group of dear friends who met daily at the Seaport Pharmacy for coffee, chat and lots of laughs.
She enjoyed cooking, sailing, painting, traveling, and entertaining. Blanche was also a volunteer for the Reading Program at Center School, and an active participant at Pub Quiz at the Kinsale Inn.
She is already so painfully missed by her adoring family and friends, and we are all so very grateful to have been blessed with her in our lives.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Marcia Perry of Mattapoisett, Susan Doucette and her husband Richard of Spring Hill, Florida, and Tracey Sottak and her husband Chris of El Paso, Texas; 2 brothers, Roy Andrews of Mattapoisett and Joseph Andrews and his wife Edith of Dartmouth; sister-in-law Jeanne Benjamin and her husband Jon of Brookline; 18 grandchildren, including Spencer Barros, whom she raised; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.

She was the mother of the late Evelyn Perry and the sister of the late Pauline Collins, Marjorie Payne, Mildred Barros and David Andrews.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 27th at 9:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Visiting hours Monday, October 26th from 2 - 7 PM.
