Bonaventura J. "Buster" Barboza, III, 77, of New Bedford passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. He was the husband of the late Cheryl (Andrews) Barboza.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Bonaventura "Benny" Barboza, Jr., and Mildred (Andrade) Barboza, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Buster loved his family. He made it a point to be at every graduation and birthday party for his family. He enjoyed playing saxophone, dancing, watching western TV shows and horseback riding. Buster worked as an electrician, plumber, and longshoreman for many years and drove the bookmobile and volunteered for the New Bedford Fire Department. Buster was the president of the United Social Club.
Survivors include his children, Terri Barboza, Kim Barboza-Reed, Bonaventura "Ben" Barboza, IV and his wife Ana-Marie Fonseca, Tanya Barboza and April Monteiro all of New Bedford; his sister Marilyn "Bonnie" Ortiz; his grandchildren, Leon Lomba, Jr., John C. Burgo, III, Calvin Grace, Shanelle Pina, Teyana Gomes, Briana Barboza, Tiara Monteiro, and Ty-asia Barboza; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Laura Barboza-Camacho.
A Celebration of Buster's life will be held on Saturday June 21, 2025 from 2-6 PM at the Verdean Veterans Memorial Hall, 561 Purchase Street, New Bedford.
