With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles J. McCarthy, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, who left us peacefully at his home on Wednesday October 14, 2026 at the age of 92. Born on August 28, 1934, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Charles was the beloved son of the late Charles and Annie (Walker) McCarthy.
Charles shared 68 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Mona (Ricard), who lovingly stood by his side through life's many joys and challenges. Together they created a family filled with love and laughter. His survivors include his son Daniel and his wife Ami, his son Robert and his wife Susan, his son William and his wife Sharon, his daughter Catherine and her partner Dennis, and his daughter Jacqueline; his grandchildren, William, Laura, Julia, Patrick, Brooke, Trevor, Owen, Danielle, Ryan, and Kyle; his great-granddaughter Aaliyah; and his sister, Maureen Glowacki. Charles was predeceased by his son Edward.
A proud alumnus of New Bedford Institute of Textile and Technology (UMass Dartmouth), Charles graduated in 1957 with degree in mechanical engineering. His impressive career spanned thirty-five years as a mechanical engineer at the Naval Underwater System Center in Newport RI.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles was a man of simple pleasures. He found joy in the routine of morning walks with his friends at the Dartmouth Mall.
His presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren was a sense of immense pride and happiness. The memories he created with those he loved will forever remain a beacon of love and inspiration.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 20th at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
