Charles A. Tavares, D.D.S, 87, of Mattapoisett, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, November 22, 2021. He was the husband of the late Sally Tavares.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late James M. and Bridget (Misiolek) Tavares, he lived in Mattapoisett most of his life.

Charles served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy, earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He loved his profession of dentistry and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his children, Jim Tavares and his wife Yvette of Illinois, Jane Kendall and her husband Kevin of Mattapoisett, and Jennifer Magee of Florida; his grandchildren, Benjamin, John-Henry, Sophia, Stefan Mendell and his wife Rebecca, Lydia Ferreira and her husband Daniel, Brett Kendall, and Molly Magee; and a great-grandchild, Elena Mendell.

His Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 29th, at 10 AM at St. Anthony's Church, Mattapoisett. The public is invited to meet directly at church. Private burial will follow. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
