Obituary

Claire A. (Duval) Carter, 101, of Fairhaven died Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Alden Court after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Dr. Bernard F. Carter.

Born in Fairhaven, daughter of the late Arsene and Anna (Giasson) Duval, she lived in Fairhaven most of her life.

Claire was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven.

She was a proud graduate of Fairhaven High School, where she distinguished herself as a spirited member of the cheerleading squad.

Claire loved watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, big band music, and being around family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by four children, Mark Carter, Ann DaRosa and her husband Michael, Meg Aurelio and her husband Dennis, and Ned Carter and his wife Kim; her brother, Dennis Duval and his wife Aline; her son-in-law, Michael Hevey; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Susan J. Hevey; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Carter; and 6 siblings.

Her Funeral Mass will be Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven, with everyone meeting directly at the Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 16th from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
