Clarisse (Bala) Pires, 83, of Fairhaven passed away Wednesday September 2, 2026. She was the wife of the late Roger W. Pires, Sr.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Jose and Biblina (Sena) Bala, she lived in Fairhaven for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven.

Clarisse was formerly employed as a cashier at Walmart in Fairhaven for 17 years. Prior to that she worked at Schoolhouse Candy in New Bedford.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she dearly loved her family and always put their needs first. She was extremely generous and was a benefactor of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for years. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox games.

She is survived by her children, Roger W. Pires Jr. and his wife Danielle of Plymouth, Raymond J. Pires and his wife Lori of Fairhaven, and Trish Stefanini and her husband Dennis of Fairhaven; her daughter-in-law, Natalie Pires of Fairhaven; her brother, Victor Bala and his wife Bunny of Fairhaven; her grandchildren, Lindsay Pires Dussault and her husband Nathan, Nathan Pires, Andruw Pires, Daymon LeRoux, Nicole Pires and her fiancé Kyle Fernandes, Evan Pires, Allison Pires, and Audrey Pires; her great-grandchildren, Bentley Dussault, Leah Fernandes, and Paxton Fernandes; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son William J. Pires, and her siblings, Mario Bala, Ana Andrade, and Maria Jose Silva.

At her request, her Funeral Mass and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
