Colleen Florence Ormsby (nee Barboza), 86, of New Bedford, MA and New Haven, CT, most recently of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on February 11, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1937, in New Bedford, MA.

Colleen was the Chief Nurse of Neurosurgery at Yale New Haven Hospital. She dedicated her life to nursing, serving with excellence and compassion. Colleen was a graduate of New Bedford High School and the University of Bridgeport school of Nursing as an RN.

She was a devoted mother, dedicated nurse, and an active member of the
community. Colleen was a member of St. Luke's Church, finding solace and strength in her faith. She was also involved in the Prince Hall Chapter of the Eastern Star and enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally.

Colleen is survived by her sister, Joyce Barboza Davis; her sons, Joseph J. Ormsby and Reginald L Ormsby, II; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Edna Barboza.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Rural Cemetery, 149 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the United Negro College Fund, Tuskegee University, or any Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals.
