Cynthia G. (Gomes) Morris, 92, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 6, 2024 with her family by her side.  She was the wife of the late Victor J. Morris.

Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Alberto and Olivia (Gomes) Gomes, she lived in Dartmouth since 1975.

Cynthia was formerly employed as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Social Services until her retirement.

She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.  She received her Bachelor's degree from Boston University and her Master's degree from Assumption College.

Active in the community, Cynthia was a member of the Cape Verdean Recognition Committee and the Cape Verdean Action Committee, and a former board member of the Dartmouth Council on Aging and Model Cities in New Bedford.

She is survived by her sons, Victor J. Morris II and his wife Casema, Derek S. Morris and his partner Tom Smith, and Steve Goldstein and his wife Connie; her grandsons, Kyle Morris and his wife Kelly, and Eric Houtman; her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kylee; her special cousins, Marilyn Gonsalves, Jeannette Roderick, and Marlene Tavares; and several nieces, nephews, and other cousins.

She was the sister of the late Alberto "Sonny" Gomes, Jr.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 13th at 10 AM at the United House of Prayer, 419 Kempton St., New Bedford.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be on Tuesday November 12th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.  For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
