Obituary

Daniel F. Beatriz, 69, of New Bedford died April 8, 2024 peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Joanne (Supczak) Beatriz, his high-school sweetheart.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Francis L. and Barbara A. (Mello) Beatriz, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Dan was a dedicated family man. The births of his children and grandchildren brought him great joy! No matter the activity- skateboarding, bicycling, softball, or girl scouting, he was their number one fan. He spent countless hours driving them to and from various activities, CCD, and jobs. Not surprisingly, he eagerly taught all 3 kids how to drive in the family station wagon. For over 30 years, Dan enjoyed the annual family trip to New Hampshire's White Mountains. No trip was complete without a trip to Polly's Pancake Parlor, the Met Cafe in North Conway, and a drive along the Kancamagus Highway.

Dan was the New Bedford Girl Scout Cookie Manager for over 10 years, responsible for the ordering, distribution, and payment of thousands of cases of cookies. He was affectionately known as Dan, Dan the Cookie Man to a generation of Girl Scouts.

A big country music fan, he and Joanne attended many, many concerts. Favorites were the Highway Men, George Strait, and Garth Brooks.

He loved working with his hands and keeping busy. An accomplished handyman who excelled at a variety of home improvement projects, he was very popular with his neighbors. On the weekend, he could be seen on his riding mower wearing a straw cowboy hat. A true dog lover, he was always accompanied by his dog. He was predeceased by Leila, his AM Staff and Labs, Coco, Rocky and Sandy.

Danny was a former member of the Whalers Drum & Bugle Corps, St. Kevin's Emerald Knights of Dorchester and the Crusader Sr. Drum & Bugle Corps. He played the Soprano Bugle. He was especially proud to have played with Dropkick Murphys during the opening ceremonies of the first Winter Classic held at Fenway Park on New Years Day 2010 while in St. Kevin's. It became the family tradition to attend America's hometown parade annually in Plymouth the Saturday before Thanksgiving while he marched and played with St. Kevin's and the Crusaders.

He was employed as a school bus driver with Tremblay Bus Co. for several years until his retirement. Previously, he was a delivery driver for Clean Rentals and Servomation Corporation. He also was a machinist at Stillwater Fasteners in Freetown, as well as an associate in the hardware, lawn, and garden departments at Sears in Taunton.

Survivors include his wife; his 2 sons, Michael Beatriz and his partner Amy Tatro of Newport, RI and Jeffrey Beatriz and his wife Jessica of New Bedford; a daughter, Elizabeth Goudreau and her husband Keith of New Bedford; a sister, Donna Curcio and her husband Michael of Fairhaven; 3 grandchildren, Ajax Goudreau, Niall Goudreau and Edward Daniel Beatriz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Frank Beatriz.

Danny's memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 19th from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
