Son of the late Raymond and Florabell (Frances) Sylvia, he was born and lived most of his life in New Bedford, before moving to So. Dartmouth.
After graduating from Bristol County Agricultural High School, Daryl worked in landscaping for Alan Haskell and G Bourne Knowles & Co. He was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating County Mini Mart and the Carpet Merchant for many years.
Daryl spent many years volunteering to support the youth of the area. He had a long Scouting career, serving with several troops in the area, including Troops 5, 46, and 49, on many council and district activities, as the Lay Adviser of Neemat Lodge for over a decade, as a member of the Camping and Properties Committee, and in many roles on Cachalot's summer camp staff, including as the Business Manager for several years in the 1980s and as the Program Director in the early to mid-1990s. Daryl continued to support the Scouting program, specifically with Troop 24 Boys and Girls, at the time of his passing.
In addition to Scouting, he was an avid volunteer and member of the Kiwanis Club of New Bedford. Staying true to the Kiwanis goals, he supported children's health, nutrition and literacy while developing youth leadership skills.
