David Alves

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of David Alves of Fairhaven, MA who passed away at home on October 23, 2026 at the age of 68. He was a devoted and loving husband and father who was surrounded by his family and those who loved him after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the time of his passing.

David was born and raised in Fairhaven, the son of the late Manuel and Hilda Alves. He was one of four boys and the last surviving brother of Manuel Jr. (Sonny), Steven, and Joseph Alves. He attended Fairhaven High School and was part of the graduating class of 1977 where he was voted Best Natured, a trait that he carried with him and describes much of his life.

David worked at Kmart for many years where he met the love of his life Kerry Alves. They married October 22, 1988 and had two sons Justin and Jonathan. David loved to spend time with Kerry taking trips, going to the beach, or simply staying home together enjoying family time. He was a proud father and spent countless days and hours teaching and supporting his two boys as they became men. David was a family man who instilled the importance of time together and putting his family first always.

David worked at Kohl's Department store prior to retiring in 2025 and while he enjoyed his team and working with his crew, his true passion was at the beach. David loved to spend time at the Shack fishing, cooking, kayaking and simply appreciating life among friends and family. David had a deep appreciation for how to enjoy life and deeply valued good food and a great time. He was a member of the Club Madeirense S.S. Sacramento following in his father's footsteps.

David was a family man whose generosity of spirit didn't end with his sons and wife but extended to each and every niece, nephew, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law who knew he was a phone call away whenever they needed him.David's good nature and kind soul made him the first on many people's emergency contact list and his loss creates a big void in the lives of many.

David is survived by his wife, Kerry Alves, his sons, Justin and Jonathan Alves, his father-in-law Daniel Ryan, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Matthew Oliveira, Eileen Dunn, Maureen Bergeron and her fiancé Scott Manchester, Carmen Alves, and Donna Alves. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Carlos Alves, Jerome Alves, Julie Alves, James Bergeron, Kara Messier, Alyson Silva, Samuel Dunn, and Kathleen Dunn.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 3rd at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven, with everyone invited to meet directly at the Church. A private family burial service will follow in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider doing a random act of kindness in David's memory.
