Obituary

David E. Goulart, 72, a native of Nantucket and longtime New Bedford resident died Sunday July 5, 2009 after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Mr. Goulart was a carpet installer for many years with Morency Carpets and Fred Assaf Carpet Company.
He served in the Naval Reserve for 20 years. He was called to active duty during the Berlin Airlift/Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961-1962, and again in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. John F. Kennedy. He was very proud of his military service and received several commendations.
He loved being with his family and is survived by his wife Beverly (Boulier) Goulart; his children, Charles Goulart of New Bedford, Daniel Goulart and his wife Gloria of San Diego, CA, Lisa Catterall and her husband John of Mattapoisett, and Cheryl Souza and her husband Patrick of Fairhaven; his sister, Mildred Frates of Santa Rosa, CA; his brother, Charles Goulart of Fairhaven; and five grandchildren.
His Memorial Service will be held on Sunday July 12th at 7:45 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with visitation prior to the service from 5-7:45 PM. A family burial service with military honors will be in Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Compassionate Care ALS, Gordon T. Heald ALS Fund, P.O.
