IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David B.
Jones
June 11, 1943 – March 29, 2024
David B. Jones of New Bedford peacefully passed away on March 29, 2024, after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Elsie D. (Moore) Jones.
David joined the workforce at a young age, sweeping floors at the family garage "Jones Wheel Alignment & Brake Service". Through his hard work and dedication eventually he was promoted and started servicing the vehicles. From there he tried several occupations from a hairdresser to foundry operative. Ultimately, he found happiness in his role as Superintendent of Maintenance at Harborview Towers. David was extremely handy and a natural problem solver, he was able to assist many residents with ease.
He had impeccable style and often favored a monochromatic look with matching accessories. This coincided with his love for classic, muscle and hot rod cars. David collected DVD's and spent countless hours engrossed in Sci-fi and action films. He had an eclectic taste in music and an array of albums to prove it. David was a creative and an artist. He spent time taking photographs and drawing with different mediums such as ink, markers, colored pencils, and chalk. He proudly displayed his artwork in his home. He liked to experiment with many subjects which ranged from portraits to Samurai battle scenes to landscapes.
David was a devoted father, a dependable confidant and an excellent listener. He was also a wise guy, and you could always count on him to lighten the mood with a joke. He supported his children in all that they did; as he attended many soccer, basketball and rugby games, track meets, concerts, talent shows, science fairs just to name a few. He was very in tune with his Native Heritage and skillfully sewed outfits to be showcased at Pow Wows and passed down sacred teachings to his children. Although David did not have a post-secondary education, he stressed its importance. As a result, he experienced numerous campus move in days and most importantly got to witness several college graduations as his children have received degrees from Assumption University, College of the Holy Cross, Rhode Island College, University of Kentucky, Salve Regina University, Wheaton College, and Merrimack College.
Once David reached retirement age, he was ready and entitled to enjoy a well-deserved break. Although he continued working part-time, he also enjoyed traveling to visit family and attended several concerts, a few of his favorites were: Tower of Power, The Temptations, Diana Ross, Carlos Santana, Earth Wind & Fire, and Chicago. He also curated a list of restaurants he wanted to try and every Friday he would enjoy a hearty dinner at one of these new places and would give an animated and honest review. David lived his life in true "David Jones fashion" - with love for his family, style, class, and a well-timed joke.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Silva; his 6 children, David B. Jones Jr. of Bristol, RI, Ryan Mello of Arizona, Joanna Silva-Jones, Jillian Silva-Jones, Jonathan Silva-Jones and Jasmine Silva-Jones all New Bedford; his brother Kenneth Jones Jr. of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Stephen Jones, Janice Jones and Karen Jones.
