David C. Ryan, 88, of New Bedford died January 4, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Harold D.P. and Gertrude K. (Esslinger) Ryan, he lived in New Bedford. Mr. Ryan served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army overseas in England, the Philippines and Vietnam before returning stateside to Texas. While assigned to Texas, he taught operating room technicians at the Academy of Health Sciences and Baylor University and upon retirement was awarded the meritorious service medal.
After retirement from the military he returned to his home in New Bedford. Mr. Ryan was formerly employed as a nurse at the Paul A. Dever State School and the Bristol County House of Correction retiring in 1992.
Survivors include his twin brother, Daniel J. Ryan of Fairhaven; several nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Harold D.P. Ryan, Jr.
His Funeral and burial will be private.
