Donald DeWitt Westfall

Donald (Don) Westfall passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the age of 88.

Don was born in Rochester, NY, to Donald Salisbury and Freda W. Westfall, and resided in Brighton, NY. His death was preceded by his brother, Walter. He leaves his wife, Bonnie, sons Donald S. and Paul K. Westfall, and grandchildren Wyatt, Nate, Charlie, Emily, and Jenna Westfall.

Don majored in economics at Williams College, graduating class of 1958. He graduated three years later from Harvard Law School and was recruited by IBM, where he worked on Park Avenue, NYC. He spent his entire career with IBM, retiring 44 years later as Associate General Counsel for IBM.

Don and Bonnie fell in love while living across the hall from each other in New York City. They were married for 59 years.

In the early 1970s, Don was assigned to Paris, France, where he was Marketing Counsel for European/Middle East/Africa for three years. He and his young family lived in Neuilly-sur-Seine and enjoyed visiting the local parks, exploring Paris and its environs and traveling to nearby countries like Italy, Holland, and Belgium.

After returning from France, Don worked at IBM's World Trade HQ in Armonk, NY. He was the Regional Counsel for Canada, Latin America and the Far East. While there he traveled extensively, including business trips to Argentina, Australia, and frequent trips to IBM Japan.

Don and Bonnie raised their family in Katonah, NY, where Don's top priority was his family. He enjoyed tennis, squash, and, of course, his favorite, golf. He and his family went on ski trips almost every winter. Don also spent many hours coaching soccer and being a huge part of his sons' lives. Don rarely missed one of his boys' soccer or lacrosse games. He was a wonderful and devoted father and grandfather.

Don was a highly respected attorney and known to all as a kind, soft-spoken and intelligent man. He maintained many friendships from his personal and professional life. We will miss his ready smile, strength and tenacity and his ability to tell a good story and to recall a good meal.

We will forever remember his dedication, his caring ways, and his loving nature.
