Doris Jean Heron

Doris Jean (England) Heron, 88, of New Bedford died Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at home after a brief illness. She was the wife of Robert S. Heron, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Doris (Alexander) England and the late James G. England, who was killed in the line of duty while serving as a New Bedford Police Officer in 1955.

Jean was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1956.

She was formerly employed as a secretary at Paul G. Cleary Contracting and Hiller Printing until her retirement. In retirement, she was employed by Target in Dartmouth for many years.

Jean loved to travel and especially enjoyed going on her annual cruises and trips to Las Vegas with her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Kathleen Bentley and her husband Gordon; her son, James P. Heron; four grandchildren, Brooke and Aaron Bentley and Lucas and Nathan Heron; and one great-granddaughter.
