Douglas L. MacLean

Douglas L. MacLean, 68, of New Bedford, passed away at home on Thursday April 30, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, leaving behind a lifetime of laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories.

Doug was a man who could make anyone smile. Known for his sharp humor and easygoing nature, he had a way of turning strangers into friends within moments. His laughter was truly contagious, filling every room and leaving a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Doug grew up in Fairhaven and proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. He spent much of his life as a commercial fisherman, scalloping the waters he loved so deeply. The ocean was part of who he was, and even in later years, he often wished he could be back out at sea doing what he loved most.

In addition to his time on the water, Doug spent several years working at the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, where he took pride in serving his community. He was also involved with PAACA, dedicating his time to helping others and making a meaningful difference in the lives of many.

Outside of his work, Doug had a deep love for sports and cherished many memories cheering on the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, and Boston Red Sox, especially during trips to TD Garden. Those moments were more than just games, they were part of the fabric of his life.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures that made him unmistakably himself, the rumble of a Harley, the thrill of a sports car, the familiar scent of a cigar, and the sound of Van Morrison playing through the house.

Above all, Doug will be remembered for the joy he brought to others, his larger-than-life personality, and the way he made people feel just by being around him.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Brittany Raimondo and her husband, Marc; his beloved grandchildren, Nora and Jacob Knight, and Alex, Bryce and Jade Raimondo; his sisters, Kim MacLean and Lauren Fontaine and her husband, Chuck; his cousin, Lynne George; Mary Jane MacLean, wife of his late father; his aunt, Patricia Foster; his nieces, Dodie Fontaine and Emma Liarikos, his nephew, Andre Fontaine, as well as many cousins and close friends.

He was predeceased by his father, William Q. “Biff” MacLean, Jr. and his mother, Martha M. (George) Cardoza.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours. Relatives and friend are invited to attend his funeral service at New Life South Coast, 1331 Cove Rd., New Bedford, Thursday May 7, 2026 at 11 AM. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven with a celebration of life following. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or New Life South Coast. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.

Doug’s laughter will live on in every story shared and every smile he inspired.
