Edith R. (Vagos) Martins, 89, of New Bedford, passed away at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth on February 24, 2025, after a period of declining health.

Born in Ilhavo, Portugal, daughter of the late Mario and Rosa Vagos, she came to the United States at 9 months old. Her family originally settled in Gloucester, MA and eventually moved to New Bedford when Edith was 21 years old.

She was formerly employed as a stitcher at Grinnell Pajama until her retirement.

Edith loved going to Foxwoods Casino, shopping and her yearly summer trips to her beloved Gloucester with her daughter.  She was also a great animal lover, always feeding "her" birds and squirrels. She was predeceased by her cats, Mickey, Bugsy, and Sandy, whom she adored.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa (Terri) and Mark Giammalvo. She is also survived by a niece and a nephew. She was the sister of the late Daniel Vagos.

Her daughter would like to thank the staff at Brandon Woods of Darmouth for their care of Edith during the last 2 years of her life. Many happy memories were made there.
