Edward P. McCawley, 79, of Dartmouth, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital.

He was the husband of Mary L. (Bettencourt) McCawley.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Michael and Ellen (McCarthy) McCawley, he lived in Wareham and Marion for many years before moving to Dartmouth in 1993.

Mr. McCawley was employed by UMass Dartmouth in the maintenance department for many years until retiring as a foreman in 1993.

He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid skier.

Survivors include his widow; two brothers, Francis J. McCawley of California and Paul J. McCawley of Dartmouth; a sister, Eileen Greenfield of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late John M. McCawley, James C. McCawley, Joseph T. McCawley and Mary Walsh.

His funeral services and burial in St. Mary's Cemetery will be private.
