Obituary

Eileen M. Connor, 67, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Sunday December 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of humility, kindness, and love that will forever inspire those who knew her.

Born on October 7, 1957, in New Bedford, she was the cherished daughter of the late Helen (Coyne) Connor and John J. "Joe" Connor Sr.

Eileen is survived by her loving family: her sister Kathleen (Connor) Zajac and her husband Henry of Mattapoisett, and her brother John J. Connor Jr. and his wife Joan of Lakeville. She also leaves her beloved nieces and nephews-John, Jane, Joe, Jennie, and Jackie-who were her greatest joy and pride. Eileen shared a special bond with her cousins and close friends, who became an extension of her family.

For most of her life, Eileen called New Bedford's South End home. It was here that she found joy in simple pleasures like baking, crafting, and nurturing her community. Her raisin cakes and pies were legendary-true symbols of her warmth and care.

Eileen dedicated nearly five decades of her life to St. Luke's Hospital/Southcoast Hospitals, retiring in 2022 as a Medical Office Assistant after 49 years of tireless service. Her work extended far beyond her roles, as she co-chaired countless committees, organized fundraisers, and championed efforts to aid the needy and victims of tragedy. A pivotal figure in the creation of the Women's Center, Eileen quietly helped transform lives, offering compassion and hope to thousands.

A faithful member of St. James Parish, Eileen was deeply involved in her church community. Whether volunteering for special events or serving on the church council, her actions reflected her unwavering commitment to service.

Eileen didn't leave behind a family of her own or a long list of accolades, but her legacy is immeasurable. She was a humble role model, touching countless lives with her generosity, kindness, patience, and boundless love. Eileen's quiet strength and selfless spirit leaves the world a better place.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 30th at 10 at St. James Church, 233 County St., New Bedford.  Everyone is invited to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held on Sunday December 29th from 2-5 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Lupus Research Alliance (www.give.lupusresearch.org.)  For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
