It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Elizabeth “Betty” Sullivan on July 25, 2026. Betty was born in South Boston to the late James and Gertrude Pittman on April 16, 1929. She married Stanley Gonet in 1952 and together they had four children. After the couple divorced in 1978, she married Henry Sullivan in 1981 and they lived together in Dartmouth until his passing in 2004.
Betty is survived by her four children, Michael Gonet of Dartmouth, Susan Ryder and her husband Peter of Fairhaven, Laurie Powers and her husband Charles of Fairhaven, and Robert Gonet and his wife Tricia of Millis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, two brothers, William and Robert Pittman, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers James, Donald, and John Pittman.
Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness, warmth, and sense of humor touched everyone who knew her. Behind Betty’s quiet exterior though was her deep Catholic faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and her love for the Blessed Mother Mary. Betty was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth for 45 years. What brought real joy to Betty though, in addition to her family and friends, was attending the Catholic Mass.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Julie Billiart in Dartmouth. A private burial will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people make donations to Serenity Hospice Care, 153 Cordaville Road, Southborough, MA 01772 or St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
