Elizabeth R. (James) Watkins, 81, of New Bedford died Saturday December 5, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital.

Born in Valhalla, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur Tyler James and Julia Virginia (Nelson) James, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

Mrs. Watkins was a member of Susan Sullivou Temple and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include eight children, Wayne Brown of New York, Russell Watkins of New Mexico, Jennifer, Joyce, Virginia, Janice, Lorraine, and Sheryl Watkins all of New Bedford; a stepson, Kenyon Craig of New Bedford; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late William B. Watkins and grandmother of the late Dwayne S. Ross.
