Emma "Heathie" (McMillan) Pykosz, 88, of Nantucket died Wednesday April 13, 2011. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Pykosz.
Born on December 7, 1922 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late David and Edith (Craft) McMillan, she lived in New Bedford and Nantucket for many years. During her last years, she resided at The Homestead of Nantucket.
Mrs. Pykosz was formerly employed as the head of housekeeping at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
She was a caregiver all of her life, always looking out for others.
Survivors include five children, Roberta Reyes and her husband Robin of Dedham, David Pykosz and his wife Anastasia Akdeniz of Salem, Mitchell Pykosz and his wife Julia Roberts Pykosz of Mariaville, Maine, Christopher Pykosz and his wife Susan of Cotuit, and Brian Pykosz of Hyannis; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Mary Edtleton, Barbara Ayers, and Jane Correia.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19th at 10 AM at St. Mary-Our Lady of the Isle Church, Nantucket. A private burial service will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Homestead of Nantucket, 115 Main St., Nantucket, MA 02554.
