Eugene W. S. "Butch" Underwood, 68, of New Bedford died Wednesday August 29, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Verna A. (Munroe) Underwood.

Born in New Bedford, the son of Herman and Vera (Houtman) Miller, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Mr. Underwood was formerly employed as a school bus driver for the New Bedford School Department until his retirement.

He was a former member of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, William H. Carney Lodge.

Survivors include his wife and parents; three children, Traci Underwood, Eugene Underwood Jr., and Jeffrey Holley, all of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Genele and Tiffani Underwood and Terrance and Michael Holley; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Yasmin.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 1 PM at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
