Eugenia Fortes, 86, of New Bedford died October 12, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Joaquim and Julia (Baptista) Fortes, she lived in New Bedford since 1971.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Alice Fortes of New Bedford and Dorothy Fortes of Pawtucket, RI; a brother, Jose Fortes of Pawtucket, RI; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Maria Fortes, John Fortes and Caroline Lopes.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Monday, October 15th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, October 14th from 5-9 PM.
