Fernand L. Protin, 86, of New Bedford died Wednesday October 15, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Leon and Anne Marie (Gagnon) Protin, he had lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Mr. Protin was formerly employed by Rodney Metals as a roll grinder until his retirement. He had previously worked at Morse Cutting Tools.

He was a life member of the Washington Club and a member of the Sixth Bristol Club.

Survivors include a son, Richard F. Protin of Sarasota, Florida; a brother, Andre Protin, and his wife Phyllis, of New Bedford; a niece, Andrea Corrie, her husband Eric and their daughter Lauryn, of Acushnet; his life partner, Eileen Perry of New Bedford, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Visiting hours are omitted. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery,
