Francisca Pena Berberena, 94, of New Bedford died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Claudino and Gregoria (Reyes) Pena, she had lived in Massachusetts since 1977.

She was self-employed as a seamstress for many years and enjoyed making clothes for her family, friends and customers.

Francisca enjoyed reading the Bible, singing Gospel songs "coritos", cleaning and cooking meals for her family. She was a woman of God, who held on to her faith until the very end. She instilled this faith in her children and her three grandchildren, whom she raised.

She was the mother of 16 children and is survived by many, many grandchildren and other extended family members.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
