Frank H. DeTerra, 83, of New Bedford died July 11, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness with his loving family at his side.
He was the husband of the late Ermine (Treadup) DeTerra.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank J. and Teresa F. (O'Malley) DeTerra, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. DeTerra was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
He was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford at the city yard for many years until retirement.
Mr. DeTerra served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. DeTerra enjoyed playing golf and was a lifelong member of the YMCA.
Survivors include 2 sons, Kevin DeTerra and his wife Linda Gail DeTerra of Dartmouth and David DeTerra and his wife Linda of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Bates and her husband Kurt, Scott DeTerra, Ashley DeTerra and her partner Danielle Pegden, Joseph Borges and his wife Lisa and Christy Reis; 6 great-grandchildren, Hunter Bates, Owen Bates, Joseph Borges, Jr., Brandon Borges, Haleigh Reis and Torie Reis; a great-great-grandson, Aiden Borges.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday, July 14th at 11 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday July 13th from 4-8 PM.
