Gene E. Pursley, 76, of Mattapoisett died January 8, 2005 at home unexpectedly.
He was the husband of Evelyn S. (Silveira) Pursley.
Born in Walker County, GA, son of the late Everett and Bertie Julia (White) Pursley, he was raised in Chattanooga, Tenn. before moving to Mattapoisett 50 years ago.
Mr. Pursley was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett and served as an usher.
He was formerly employed by New England Telephone and Verizon for 28 years until his retirement.
Mr. Pursley was a lifemember and former president of the Telephone Pioneers, member and former King Lion of the Mattapoisett Lions Club, former Cub Scout Master of Troop 53 in Mattapoisett, master wood carver and won many awards for his work, volunteer at Tobey Hospital and repaired talking books for the Perkins School for the Blind.
He served in the US Navy during World War II and Korea.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ricky A. Pursley, and his wife Barbara, of Arlington, VA; a sister, Martha Ann Ballew of Hixson, Tenn.; 3 grandchildren; several cousins, including John Murdock and Charlotte Cox; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Pursley.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Wednesday, January 12th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Tuesday, January 11th from 4-7 PM.
Interment St. Anthony's Cemetery, Mattapoisett.
