George C. Avila, of Mattapoisett and recently of New Bedford died Sunday October 19, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was 96.
Born in New Bedford he was the youngest child of George C. Avila, Sr. and Maria (Dias) Avila.
Survivors include his wife, Diolinda (Mendes) Avila; his daughter, Susan Hoyt of Mattapoisett; his grandchildren, Christina Koslosky of California and Gaylen Whittier of Mattapoisett; several nieces and nephews.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 25th at 9 AM in St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett.
