George E.
Swansey
September 15, 1932 – August 11, 2024
George E. Swansey, 91, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Sunday August 11, 2024 surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Sylvia) Swansey; they had been married for 57 years at the time of her death in 2014.
Born and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late George E. and Kathleen (Martin) Swansey.
George was formerly employed as an electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 223 for over 60 years.
During the Korean War, he proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army.
George enjoyed camping and traveling and prided himself of having traveled to all 50 states with his wife. He spent the last 30 years dividing his time between Massachusetts and Sarasota, Florida. He gained a large number of friends throughout his endeavors and travels and was eternally grateful for them. He strongly believed to have a friend you must be a friend and lived by those words.
He was a member of the Wampanoag Camping Club and the Friendly Sons of St Patrick.
