George W. Wells, 73, of New Bedford passed away Thursday November 6, 2025 after a long illness.  He was the husband of Bette A. (DeCosta) Mendonca Wells.

Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, the son of the late Christine (Davis) Wells and George E. Briddle, he moved to Massachusetts in 1991 and settled in New Bedford in 2004.

George proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years, specializing in firefighting and retiring as a Master Sergeant.  Throughout his long career, he was stationed in Texas, Illinois, Michigan, England, Delaware, South Korea, Alaska, and Cape Cod.  After his retirement, he served as a court officer for the Massachusetts Trial Courts for 23 years.

He is survived by his wife, Bette; his children, Tonia M. Wells and George J. Wells and his wife Kiania; his stepdaughters, Kaitlin Macdonald and her husband Patrick, and Molly Courtright and her husband Dwain; his sisters Shirley Johnson and Corrine Briddle; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his committal service with military honors on Wednesday November 12th at 11:15 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.  Please arrive at the cemetery by 11 AM.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Veterans Transition House, 1297 Purchase St., New Bedford, AM 02740.  Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
