Gerry R. Rivet, 64, of New Bedford died Saturday, September 6, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital due to complications from COVID-19, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph and Rita (Soares) Rivet, he lived in New Bedford and California for most of his life.

Gerry served honorably in the United States Navy and upon his discharge, earned a Bachelor's Degree from UMass Dartmouth.

He began a radio career as the Friday @ 5 DJ on WHJY and a nighttime DJ at WMYS. He also founded a successful DJ business, Music On Wheels, along with his brother Peter.

Upon relocating to California, Gerry opened his own store, Comics and Fun, and also continued his work as a DJ at many local radio stations while operating the West Coast BB Music On Wheels entertainment company. Gerry also ventured into real estate, owning several apartment buildings.

Gerry later returned to his hometown of New Bedford, where he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid cartoon, comic book and music fan. He lived life carefree and to the fullest, despite his battle with Parkinson's Disease, which he never let stop him. Gerry will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his three brothers, Andrew Rivet, Randall Rivet and his wife Diane, and Peter L. Rivet and his wife Tammy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Nancy Rivet.

His Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford, with everyone invited to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
