Gertrude (Lawrence) Wood, 83, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 22, 2026. She was the wife of the late Frederick R. Wood.

Born in Acushnet, daughter of the late Frank and Louise (Talbot) Lawrence, she lived in East Freetown most of her life before moving to New Bedford.

Trudy enjoyed shopping, reading, sewing, and crafting. She liked watching plays at the Zeiterion Theatre. Trudy was always the host of family events and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a long time member of the East Freetown Seniors club and the Freetown book club.

Survivors include her children, Frederick F. Wood and his partner Sherry Boule of Acushnet, Dawn M. Allison and her spouse Curt Moreira of New Bedford, Deborah L. Santos and her spouse Rusty of New Bedford, and Daniel A. Wood of New Bedford; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her brothers, Henry Lawrence and Frank Lawrence.

Her visiting hours will be held Friday, March 27, 2026 from 9-10:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth at 11 AM and burial in St. John's Cemetery.
