Obituary

Gilbert Pedro, 82, of New Bedford died Sunday October 16, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Dorothy (Barao) Pedro; they had been married for 62 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Guilherme and Silvana (Lima) Pedro, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Mr. Pedro was formerly employed as a truck driver for Charles Gilman and Sons Company.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Fin, Fur, and Feather Club, the New Bedford Civil Defense, the Teamsters Union Local 59, and the Local 59 Senior Citizens Club. He was a former member of the Harpoon Harmonizers. In his youth, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth M. Pedro and his wife Gail of Fairhaven; a daughter, Susan Silva of New Bedford; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Frank Gracie, Jr. of Dartmouth; a grandson, Paul M. Silva; and four nieces.

He was the father-in-law of the late Herbert M. Silva, and brother of the late Guilhermina Rafter and Evelyn Rose.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday October 19, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday October 18, 2005 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
