Gloria Sharrock

Gloria Esther (Rosario) Sharrock, 86, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 11, 2025. She was the wife of Lonnie K. Sharrock.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Juan Rosario and Cecilia (Marquez) Rosario Marquez, she lived half her life in New York City before moving to New Bedford.

Gloria worked as a social worker advocating for children and families both in New York and in Massachusetts. After moving to New Bedford she worked at Massachusetts Migrant Education Program as a community liaison. She also worked as an employment counselor at CETA Consortium.

Gloria enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and teaching Spanish dancing and arts and crafts. She founded the dance program at her high school as well as pioneered the women's swim team. Mom was an avid swimmer and loved high-board diving. She Had an angelic singing voice that would fill the room. She had professional singing opportunities but chose to get married and have a family. While living in the Bronx, Gloria was very involved in local politics and caring for the children in her neighborhood. She was the Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and worked to build a safe community for her family.

Survivors include her husband, Lonnie K. Sharrock; her children, Angel Cruz of Puerto Rico, Victor Cruz of Mattapoisett, Noemi Cruz-Lymon and her husband Dana Lymon of Bourne, and Sacheen Bowser of Florida; her grandchildren, Angel Cruz, Victor Cruz, Jr., Alvin Cruz, Anaiss Cruz, Angeliz Cruz, and Justin Cruz; her great-grandchildren, Kenada Cruz and Rae-Juan Marcus Cruz; her cousin Edward Cambrelen; and her Godchildren, Anthony James, William Jimenez, Leilany Falcon, Leimary Morales, and Ty Reyes; and many nieces and nephews who she helped raise.


She is predeceased by her grandson, Marcus Cruz; and her siblings, Rafael Rosario, Maria Consuelo Jimenez, Felix Rosario Marquez, and Rosalie Peters.

Gloria's visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Mattapoisett. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, December 17th at 11 AM in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 141 Main St., Buzzards Bay all are invited to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Plymouth.
