Grace Ella (Prescott) Sylvia, 86, of New Bedford died Saturday April 6, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Sylvia.

Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Howard A. and Freda (Amero) Prescott, she lived in Lakeville before returning to New Bedford.

She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

She devoted her life to caring for her son Peter.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne A. Sylvia and his wife Lori of Dartmouth and Peter J. Sylvia of New Bedford; her siblings, Shirley Baptiste, Eileen Antil, and Howard A. Prescott, Jr., all of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Wayne J. and Cody J. Sylvia; and nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Jennie Margaret "Peggy" Richard.


Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
