Guenter F. Pfeiffer, 76, of New Bedford died Sunday September 13, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Eugenia (Gomes) Pfeiffer.

Born in Herborn, Germany, the son of the late Ferdinand and Maria (Hoffman) Pfeiffer, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Mr. Pfeiffer was formerly employed as a machinist for Morgan Advanced Ceramics and Chamberlain Manufacturing.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957. He enjoyed traveling and pigeon racing. He was a member of the German American Cultural Society of Pawtucket.

Survivors include his wife; four stepchildren, Joseph DaCruz of Tennessee, Anne Penha of Fairhaven, Juvita DaRosa of Pawtucket, RI, and Julio DaCruz of Connecticut; a brother, Heinz Pfeiffer of Germany; a sister, Gerda Staudt of Germany; twelve grandchildren, including Nicole Tavares of Dartmouth, and Maria and Daniel Buetzow, both of Florida; a great-granddaughter; and two cousins, Elfriede Zuercher and Elizabeth Reilly, both of Rhode Island.

He was the father of the late Barbara Tavares, Robert Pfeiffer, and Frank Buetzow who died on Sept. 5, 2009.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
