Gwenda M. (Horne) Wilson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and community volunteer, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Friday June 5, 2026.
Born in Blackpool, England, Gwenda was the cherished daughter of the late Harry Horne and Annie (Edwards) Horne. In 1970, she and her husband immigrated to Acushnet, Massachusetts, bringing with them their three children and beginning a new chapter of life in the United States.
Gwenda was the devoted wife of Derrick Wilson for 66 years. Together they built a loving family and shared a lifetime of memories. She was predeceased by her son, Russell Wilson.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Derrick Wilson; her daughters, Rachael Crowley and her husband, Brian Crowley, and Helen Wilson; her grandson, Nicholas Medeiros and his wife, Kaitlyn Medeiros; her granddaughter, Kelsey Medeiros and her fiancé, Robert Bonanno; and her cherished great-grandchildren, James and Luke Medeiros.
Gwenda dedicated many years to education as a teacher at St. Francis Xavier School, where she inspired and nurtured countless students until her retirement. She was passionate about learning and helping others, qualities that defined both her professional and personal life.
A woman of many interests, Gwenda loved traveling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and creating lasting family memories. She was an active member of the Transatlantic Brides Parents Association and generously volunteered with the Acushnet Historical Society, contributing her time and talents to preserving local history and strengthening her community.
Gwenda will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, devotion to her family, and the positive impact she had on all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. May she rest in peace.
Her funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
