Gwendolyn M. (Wood) Mello, 86, of Fairhaven died January 21, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Edwin F. Wood, Jr. and Madeline (Dalbec) Wood, she lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven 15 years ago.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Mello was formerly employed as a licensed practical nurse at several local hospitals and nursing homes for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, crossword puzzles and the New England Patriots.
Her family would like to thank her niece, Pamela Calnen and friend Betsy Rosen for the care given to Gwendolyn.
Survivors include 2 sons, Wayne Mello and his wife Lisa of Palm Coast, FL and Bruce Mello and his wife Jenn of Westport; 2 daughters, Geri Boswell and her husband Richard and Kathi Edwards and her husband Todd, all of Fairhaven; a sister, Beverley O'Berry of Dartmouth; 10 grandchildren, Dawn, Heather, Benjamin, Jamey, Cricket, Chad, Jason, Joshua, Zachary and Kobie; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Patricia Bonito, Edwin F. Wood, III and Everett Wood.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 26th at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours Monday, January 25th from 4-8 PM.
