Helen D. (Jacintho) Amaral, 91, of New Bedford died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Antone Amaral.

Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antonio and Mariana (Lewis) Jacintho, she lived there for all of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

Mrs. Amaral was formerly employed by Eastern Sportswear and Cliftex for many years until her retirement.

She enjoyed watching sports, reading, knitting and sewing.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Carvalho of Florida and Karen Amaral of New Bedford; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the grandmother of the late Toni Marie Carvalho.
